A new chapter has begun for Love Live — and it arrives on a pair of wings.
While last year saw the formal closure of the project’s second unit, Aqours (pronounced “Aqua”), fans have also witnessed a wave of new developments flourish from the other units within the franchise — including the growth of the newest addition to the ever-expanding project, Ikizulive! Love Live! Bluebird.
Though their idol activities are still in the early days, and the story of the characters is only just beginning to unfold through their respective X accounts, the girls of Bluebird took the stage this weekend for their first live concert.
Following the second day of their performance, a brand-new unit song and animated music video was released: “Dou-Da? DOING!”
This new music video is exquisite, featuring breathtaking animation and a lively setting. The song itself is destined to find a place at the top of many playlists. The video carries significant weight — not only for the girls of Bluebird, but for Love Live! as a whole.
“Dou-Da? DOING!” marks the franchise’s first fully animated music video since their seniors, Liella!, released “Hajimari wa Kimi no Sora” in 2021. Once a staple of the franchise, these animated MVs have been a long-missed and highly anticipated aspect for many fans. Not only are they consistently stunning, but they also help tell the girls’ stories in deeply meaningful ways.
And this one quickly sets the stage for the foundation of the era we are entering.
The opening sequence shows each girl at her starting point, giving us a glimpse into their individual struggles — fitting for a group that calls itself the “Hard Life Club.” Through thoughtful visual direction, we see the hardships that led each member to enroll at their school, and what happens when lost souls find one another.
A miracle — something Love Live! has always specialized in portraying.
While we witness the joy and glee of the girls bonding and performing together, we are reminded that they see themselves as birds in a cage. Even so, through their combined efforts, they shine. And perhaps, just maybe, together — with the light only they can create — they may one day break free from the forces that clipped their wings.
The final reveal reframes everything as a grand fanfare — a dream burning deep within a sleeping Polka’s mind, one she will likely strive to bring to life.
Love Live! has always thrived on these small, mindful, and genuine notions. A recurring theme across every generation is the power of friendship and the transformation that occurs when one is honest about their feelings — even the ones buried deep in the darkest corners of the heart.
From μ’s struggling to save something they cherished and becoming something bigger than themselves, to Aqours’ desire to shine and discover what makes them uniquely who they are (while also saving their school); from Nijigasaki High School Idol Club striving for each solo idol to find her own voice while harmonizing as one, to Liella!’s path toward building a future they longed for without history to support them —
Love Live! has never shied away from the messy parts of being a teenager — or simply being human. It shows the moments when the girls feel they’ve hit rock bottom and want to give up, contrasted with the brilliance of when they shine brightest on stage as confetti rains down.
It’s that messiness — that authenticity — that makes Love Live! resonate so deeply. It’s what makes you cheer for these girls who have only a small window of time to stand on stage together.
As Ikizulive deepens with each release and story development, we are sure to see them shine brighter and brighter. And it will be a journey well worth every misstep the girls endure along the way — because we will be ready, light sticks shining, cheering them on.
